Classic Guacamole

Want the perfect topping, spread or dip for burrito bowls, burritos, Mexican-inspired casseroles, sandwiches, wraps, veggies, tortilla chips and more? This classic guacamole recipe is it!

Guacamole is one of my favorite healthy plant-based appetizers to serve to family and friends because it just has a way of bringing everyone I love together.

This classic guacamole recipe is made with avocado, minced garlic, plum tomato, fresh lime juice, cayenne pepper, sea salt, red onion and fresh cilantro, and all you need to make it is a mortar and pestle…

Get the recipe below!

Ingredients (6 servings)

  • 3 ripe avocados (remove seed & skin)
  • plum tomato (diced)
  • 1 lime (juiced)
  • 1/2 cup red onion (diced)
  • 1 tsp. garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper (dry)*
  • 3 Tbsp. fresh cilantro (chopped)

Recipe Equipment

  • Mortar & Pestle

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a mortar. Use a pestle to mash the ingredients together to make a chunky or creamy guacamole.**

*In place of cayenne pepper, you can use fresh jalapeno pepper. I recommend removing the seeds from the jalapeno and adding about 1/2 tsp. minced jalapeno to the guacamole for a little spice. Add more for spicy guacamole.

**To store guacamole, cover the top in cling wrap to remove any air/air bubbles and refrigerate so that the guacamole keeps its fresh green color.
